Located in the heart of Athens, Ittaki is a small street in Monastiraki area, one of the most characteristic quarters with narrow and winding lanes and small buildings that date back to Byzantine and Ottoman period. This street hosts only a few small shops, very few residents and an amazing lighting installation.

Beforelight, a Greek based creative Studio that experiment with the use of light, in collaboration with Imagine the city, a cluster for city branding and urban renovation, has invited and mobilized the residents to donate their old luminaires, fixtures and lamp shades in order to transform the abandoned street of old central Athens into a homely space, with the site-specific installation "Synoikia", that means neighborhood.



An abandoned shop was temporarily transformed into an open workspace for people to gather, observe and participate in the development of the project. 

A process of repairing, testing and waterproofing the lamps engaged volunteers that, in collaboration with greek creative studio Beforelight, prepared more then 150 lamps to create a colorful ceiling over the street, in an effort to encourage the public collective experience with artificial light.

'tetris', de Michael Johansson

L'artista suec Michael Johansson té la capacitat de transformar objectes quotidians, envellits pel pas del temps -i amb una petita història particular per a explicar- en instal·lacions que juguen amb l'estranyament d'aquests objectes a través d'una calculada descontextualització i d'una manipulació volumètrica igualment precisa.

El muntatge Tetris, a l'edifici Geozavod de Belgrad (2012) és un bon exemple. El Geozavod és una construcció emblemàtica, inicialment concebuda com a Cooperativa Belgrade (1905-07), una companyia d'assegurances que més tard va deixar pas a altres usos fins a l'estat d'abandonament actual, a l'espera d'una reforma. Mentrestant, Johansson hi ha vist una oportunitat per a una intervenció temporal però molt significativa.

Diversos objectes dels magatzems de l'edifici constitueixen la matèria prima per a aquest treball de Johansson. Convenientment reagrupats i privats de la tercera dimensió, aquests objectes d'oficina d'un altre temps, no molt llunyà, adopten una relació molt particular amb les sales que els contenen, que ja no és funcional. El seu nou ordre dóna encara més relleu a la inactivitat de l'edifici. La seva compacitat extrema ens porta a pensar en tot l'espai que han buidat. Recorden els cossos de ballarins en estret contacte als carrers de diverses ciutats, coreografiats per Willi Dorner (Bodies in Urban Spaces, 2009), aprofitant escletxes que, d'altra manera, passarien desapercebudes.
